Our History

Founded in 1984, Hopper Creek Montessori began as a vision to bring high-quality, modern early childhood education to Yountville, California. Just ten years later, the school moved to its current home a few blocks from downtown Napa, where it has continued to thrive.

Thanks to the leadership and dedication of founder Carol Woodiwiss, Hopper Creek Montessori grew into one of Napa Valley’s most respected preschools. In 2022, Carol passed the torch to Brenna Roth, who now leads the school with a commitment to its core values and a fresh vision for the future.

For nearly four decades, children have learned, played, and flourished within the welcoming environment of Hopper Creek Montessori—a place where curiosity is nurtured, individuality is celebrated, and each child is supported in their unique path of growth.

About Me:

I’ve always had a love for the outdoors—whether it’s hunting, camping under the stars, or practicing with my bow. Some of my favorite moments are spent with my daughter, whether we’re swimming, horseback riding, or enjoying time together with family. I also have a passion for home-centered hobbies that keep my hands and heart busy—sewing quilts, cooking hearty meals, baking homemade sourdough, and tending to a colorful garden.

Before settling into my role at Hopper Creek Montessori, I had the opportunity to travel extensively as a private nanny, experiencing new cultures and meeting families from all over the world. Those experiences deepened my appreciation for the importance of a nurturing, loving environment for children.

Why I Teach Preschool:

Teaching preschool fills my heart in a way few other things can. There is such joy in watching a child’s eyes light up when they discover something new or accomplish something they didn’t think they could do. I love creating a warm, inviting space where children feel safe to explore, ask questions, and try new things.

Every day, I get to help shape not just a child’s education, but their confidence, character, and love for learning. It’s about more than ABCs and 123s—it’s about teaching kindness, independence, and the value of community. These early years are so formative, and I feel incredibly grateful to walk alongside children and their families during such an important stage of life.

About Me:

I love spending time outdoors—whether it’s camping, running, golfing, or taking long walks with my boyfriend and family. I also enjoy relaxing at the park with a good book and discovering new favorite spots in nature, especially in places like Big Sur, Truckee, Hawaii, and Puerto Vallarta.

When it comes to treats, I’m a big fan of iced vanilla lattes and iced matcha with a little chai. Some of my favorite local eats include Zocalo, Beast and Bounty, and Mas Tacos. In my downtime, you’ll often find me watching shows like Grey’s Anatomy, New Amsterdam, or Heartland.

Fun facts? I’m a vegetarian, I love golf (my newest obsession!), and—this might sound strange—but I can touch my nose with my tongue!

Why I Teach Preschool:

I teach preschool because I genuinely love the wonder and joy children bring into each day. They see the world with such curiosity and imagination, and being able to guide them through these early stages of discovery is an incredible privilege. I love watching their faces light up when they learn something new, work through a challenge, or share something they’re proud of.

Every child is so unique, and I enjoy adapting how I teach to meet each student’s individual needs. It’s rewarding to help them grow not just academically, but socially and emotionally too. Building trust and forming strong relationships with both the children and their families is at the heart of what I do. I truly believe these early years lay the foundation for a lifelong love of learning, and I feel honored to be part of that journey.
